New for Winter 2026: Burton Waverange & Highshot Step On® Boots

Meet Waverange and Highshot Step On boots, the newest additions to Burton’s family of performance footwear. Waverange and Highshot are the culmination of nearly five decades of boot design, distilled into three tiers of performance for every style of riding. Both models feature the BOA® Fit System in one, two, and three-dial configurations for a precision fit every time you ride, and each is offered in wide sizing for both men and women.

In this guide, we’ll break down the differences between the Waverange and Highshot, explain their performance tiers, highlight the innovations that set them apart, and give you an overview of the newest snowboard boot tech that we’re bringing to market: the Burton  Triple Dial BOA® PerformFit™ Wrap System.

Waverange & Highshot: What’s the Difference?

First impressions: bold, vibrant colors, futuristic silhouettes, and more BOA dials than you can shake a stick at. That’s the Waverange and Highshot. But the real difference between these two flagship snowboard boots is how they ride. Waverange delivers a softer, surfier feel, while Highshot brings a stiffer, more responsive ride. Burton’s engineers achieved this contrast by tuning three key zones of the boot.

  1. Injected Backstays
  2. Ankle panels
  3. Sole/arch
WAVERANGEvsHIGHSHOT

Injected Backstays- Waverange features a shorter backstay component for a more maneuverable ankle flex, while the Highshot uses a taller backstay component to increase response and improve heelside power transfer.

Ankle Panels- The Waverange uses a two-piece ankle panel with a slit (an articulating cuff shell construction), allowing greater articulation and side-to-side movement. The Highshot employs a one-piece shell construction without an articulating cuff construction, trading flex for support and precision.

Sole & Arch- Underfoot, the Waverange has a narrower arch reinforcement for enhanced board feel, while the Highshot’s wider reinforcement boosts responsiveness and stability. Additionally, the Highshot arch shank covers more surface area on the side of the boot shell, another area where this arch shank offers greater support and stability compared to the Waverange.

Waverange & Highshot Performance Tiers: Step On, X Step On, X Pro Step On

Waverange and Highshot boots are offered in three performance tiers, each tuned to different rider needs. All three share Burton’s rider-designed approach and high-quality construction, but the closure system, outsole, inner cuff, and liner vary depending on how much adjustability and support you prefer.

The entry point into the lineup, the Waverange and Highshot Step On both feature a single-dial Sequence BOA fit system with Coiler ™ technology, Imprint™ 2 liner for warmth and comfort, and a Step On outsole. A super low-profile Lock-Up inner cuff keeps heel hold secure. If you’ve ridden and enjoyed the Ruler or Limelight Step On boots, consider trying the Highshot Step On.

Waverange & Highshot X Step On

The Waverange X and Highshot X Step On boots both feature a Dual-Zone BOA Fit System with Coiler technology - two dials for independent upper and lower shell adjustment. An X Flex or Firm Vibram® outsole (Flex on the Waverange, Firm on the Highshot), with 30% recycled content utilizing Vibram’s Ecostep rubber compound and elevated by Vibram’s traction lug technology, provides improved grip on multiple surfaces. An Imprint™ 3 liner with Focus Cuff locks in ankle hold.

Riders who have liked the Photon or Felix Step On boots will feel at home in the Highshot X Step On, while those who prefer the feel of the Swath or Ritual may gravitate toward the Waverange X Step On.

Waverange & Highshot X Pro Step On

At the top of the lineup are the Waverange X Pro and Highshot X Pro Step On boots — the most advanced snowboard boots we’ve ever built. Powered by the Triple Dial BOA® PerformFit™ Wrap system (PFW), they feature three independent zones of adjustment — upper, lower, and ankle — so you can fine-tune your fit with ultimate precision.

The PFW system is unique in two ways.

  1. The combination of an inner ankle hammock (functioning as the inner boot cuff) and the lower BOA zone being located directly on the boot liner.
  2. A dedicated BOA dial controlling the lower zone, which is a wrapping panel directly on the liner. This wraps over the dorsal ridge of the foot, providing unmatched foot hold through the familiar ease of BOA adjustment.

Inside, a Burton Asym Life Liner combines lightweight materials with an asymmetrical, wrap-style cuff and Velcro closure. The fit is snug, supportive, and noticeably free of pressure points from the moment you put them on.

Underfoot, a Vibram Ecostep Plus outsole with 50% recycled content and Vibram traction lugs adds grip you can trust, whether you’re stepping into your bindings, boot-packing up a steep pitch, or trekking through an icy lot.

Industry First: The Burton Triple Dial BOA® PerformFit™ Wrap System

The Burton Triple Dial BOA® PerformFit™ Wrap System (yeah, it’s a mouthful) debuts in the Waverange X Pro and Highshot X Pro Step On boots, marking a first for snowboarding.

Since 2021, Burton and BOA have been collaborating on this innovation - a triple-dial closure paired with a wrap-style liner that allows riders to independently adjust the instep, heel, and cuff with the simplicity of BOA. The result is a more uniform hold around the lower leg, ankle, and foot, with comfort that translates directly into improved performance.

“The PerformFit Wrap System is a big story for both Burton and BOA,” says Hardgoods Senior Merchandiser Eric Carlson. “BOA’s Fit Lab team has been running performance testing to show measurable advantages. That combination of innovation and proof makes these boots really exciting.”

This isn’t hype or gimmick— it’s backed by science. Years of on-snow testing and a rigorous design process have led to measurable improvements in responsiveness, reduced pressure points, and all-around enhanced ride performance.
